Canyonlands National Park, Needles District This is another area of Canyonland National Park. The park is divided into 3 areas by way of the natural barriers of the Green River and the Colorado River. This trip took us from Elephant Hill Trailhead to the Chesler Park Loop Trail, then west to the Devils Kitchen Junction. North to Devils Pocket. Across Devils Lane and Cyclone Lane going east then picking up the Lower Red Lake Canyon Trail to the Colorado River. Return to Devils Pocket turning south to link back up with Chesler Park Loop Trail. Then following the trail south until it links up with a four wheel drive road still going south you follow the road until it starts to veer east and then you follow that for .5 miles. There is a link up to the Joint Trail which, in turn, links up again to the Chesler Park Loop Trail again. Follow the Loop trail for .7 miles until a junction with the trail going to Druid Arch.On the return trip from Druid Arch veer north and follow the trail back to Elephant Hill Trail Head. This trip was different in the fact that I had never been in a joint trail and what was my first experience with a type of slot canyon of sorts. I really enjoyed the sandstone spires and joints. The colors were so spectacular and vibrant.
