Lake Mead National Recreation Area
This trip was taken during Christmas 1997. What I thought was interesting about this trip was that Lake Mead is on a little ways outside of Las Vegas, Nevada and it was virtually deserted. The lake is so huge that there can be many boats on the lake and it will never be crowded. What we did was to hike the shore line going inland or up high when we could not. It was a really nice hike. We saw little hoof prints in the sand and realized that these were the prints of the wild burros of the area. We did not get to see any but maybe another day we will. We did get to see a beautiful pack of coyotes. They looked so majestic, wild, and free.

Another thing that is interesting about this area is that it is a man made lake in the desert. There is a lot of water in the lake but move just a few feet from the lake and you have the desert. If the water does not actually touch the land then it is the way that it was before the advent of Lake Mead.
