Backpacking Links Non-Commercial

I would like to share a few web sites that I really enjoy. I hope that you will enjoy them as much as I do.

This is the official site of the Grand Canyon Hikers and Backpackers Association. You want to get involved in working to help the Grand Canyon? Join this group. There are service projects that you can get involved in. Also this is a great group of people who love the Canyon.

Want to ask something about backpacking but you don't know who to ask or where to go? Deja News Backcountry News Group is the place. People from all over the web access the site and all sorts of information can be found. The discussions can be pretty interesting.

When you backpack or do anything in the wilderness you will want to know what the weather will be like where you are going. The Weather Channel has a great site for you.

Would you like to find out about different trails that I have not described here or would you just like to learn more about the trails? Here is a very good site. This site has many links to other sites that have trail descriptions included in them.

Mike Mahany has a site that is devoted to the Grand Canyon aptly titled Grand Canyon Treks. He has pictures and even has an interview with the guru of the Grand Canyon, Harvey Buchart. He also includes a trail description or two.

TopoWeb is all about topographic maps. It is a great site. Visit here to find out more information about maps. Topozone is another site devoted to topographic maps. It is another must see site.

Another program is Leave No Trace. The mission of the Leave No Trace program is to promote and inspire responsible outdoor recreation through education, research, and partnership. You can find information on skills ranging from an introduction to wilderness ethics to the Alaskan Tundra and everything in between. They also have teaching resources and education courses. This site abounds with information. Before you go into the wilderness you need to check out this site.

This is really not a backpacking site but a really nice place to go after a long backpacking trip or anytime you are in the Hurricane, Utah area. You must visit Pah Tempe Hot Springs. These hot springs are located right on the Virgin River in the Virgin River Gorge Canyon. These springs feel really great and are really hot. They are loaded with minerals. You have your choice of swimming in a regular pool with piped in water or you can take a short walk and go to the grotto pools. I love the grotto pools because they are so nice. You can't really swim in them because they are not really deep or large but they feel so good to just soak in and relieve all the stress in your muscles.
